News

The new RefWorks platform (version 3) is now available, with a new interface and new features. This document will provide you with basic information for the use of the updated version of the system.

About RefWorks

RefWorks is a reference management tool designed to help researchers store and share information and to generate citations and bibliographies.

References are easily imported from text files or online databases. New features include the drag-and-drop uploading of files and collaborative annotation tools.

Researchers can cite references in their papers created with a common Word processor software and in GoogleDocs.

Signing up for the new RefWorks 3 (new users)

You can create a RefWorks 3 account here:  http://refworks.proquest.com/. IMPORTANT:  your USI e-mail address is to be used for the login ID.
Once you have created your own account, you will receive an e-mail with an account activation link. After activating your account, RefWorks is ready for use on and off Campus.

Migration from legacy to new RefWorks 3 account (existing users)

If you are using a RefWorks 2 ("legacy") account, you now have the option to migrate it to the new RefWorks 3. Both accounts can be used in parallel.
When you log into RefWorks 2, you will see a link at the top of the screen: “Migrate to new RefWorks… “. By clicking on this link, you can create a new account. All your records and folders will be copied from Legacy RefWorks.  IMPORTANT: Please use a valid USI e-mail address to create the new account.

Please note:

  • Papers created in RefWorks 2 will not be compatible with new RefWorks 3. We recommend you keep the current RefWorks 2 account until you complete your work
  • While reference migration from Legacy to New can occur multiple times, the opposite is not possible. Reference changes cannot migrate back to Legacy from New RefWorks
